Outdoor and Water Play at Clyde Nursery School

                                                                                                      17 December 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We would like to take this opportunity to share some information about our outdoor play and water play provision, as we understand that some families may have concerns, particularly during colder weather.

As discussed during the admissions meeting, both outdoor play and water play are an important part of the Early Years curriculum and are central to how young children learn and develop. These experiences support physical development, confidence, curiosity, problem-solving skills, independence, and overall wellbeing.

We understand concerns around children becoming unwell. However, children do not become sick from being cold, wet, or playing outdoors. Illnesses are caused by viruses and bacteria, which circulate more easily in enclosed indoor spaces. Spending time outdoors is often safer, as fresh air helps reduce the spread of germs and supports children’s health.

Please also look at our cold and outdoor play policy on our website: https://www.clydenurseryschool.co.uk/Policies/Outdoor-Play/

It is also common for young children to experience some childhood illnesses in their early years. While this can be worrying, these early exposures play an important role in building and strengthening children’s immune systems over time.

Please be assured that children’s safety, comfort, and wellbeing are always our priority. Outdoor and water play activities are carefully planned and supervised, taking weather conditions into account. Children are supported to wear appropriate clothing, and activities are adapted to ensure they remain warm, comfortable, and safe.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. By working together, we can provide a rich, balanced, and enjoyable learning environment for all children.

Regards,

Clyde Nursery
