Packed lunches at Clyde Nursery School
If you would like your child to have a packed lunch rather than a hot school meal, you will need to let Kim in the office know as soon as possible.
We are required to make sure that every child has a nutritious meal during the day and this will include children who bring food from home.
Children who stay for a hot meal in school learn many skills which will help prepare them for life and for going to primary school. They have the opportunity to sit at a dining table and eat as part of a social group. They develop independence skills such as table manners, feeding themselves using a knife and fork, and to interact with others and it also ensures that your child has a hot meal during the course of the day.
However, we are aware that some people would prefer for their child to have packed lunches. We will be asking every family who chooses to have packed lunch to sign a contract with us agreeing that they will provide healthy foods and that they will let us know by Wednesday of each week whether they would like their child to have packed lunch, a hot meal or a combination of both for the week ahead.
Information about what can be included in a packed lunch as well as guidance on portion control is included with this letter.
There will of course not be a charge for children staying over the lunch period and who bring a packed lunch. Hot meals will still need to be paid for.
If you have any questions please speak to a member of staff.
